Homework Task 3 requires you to calculate the transmission loss of two partitions.
The first partition is a composite panel of aerated concrete (90mm) and cork (6mm). This
wall is 3m x 5.2m. Plot the transmission loss from 10Hz to 8000Hz. What is the lowest
resonant frequency of the panel?
The second partition is It is comprised of one layer of 9mm gypsum plasterboard on one
side, and 16mm gypsum board on the other. The stud depth is 92mm. The wall’s
dimensions are 3 x 6m. The studs are to be placed at 600mm centres, and the
plasterboard is to be fixed to the stud with screws at 300mm intervals. Plot the
transmission between 100Hz and 3200Hz. What is the Rw rating of the partition?
These walls are both being considered to separate a small office from a kitchen. What
transmission loss rating would provide adequate sound isolation between those two
spaces? Would either of these walls achieve the requirement? State any assumptions you
have made.
