Compatibility of the tax regime of Alpha with the WTO rules.

Country Alpha applies an excise tax regime on alcoholic beverages which distinguishes between alcoholic beverages depending on the raw materials used in the distillation process. For the purpose of the excise tax, spirits are dived into four categories: 1) spirits obtained from fruit; 2) spirits obtained from cereals; 3) spirits obtained from wine; and 4) spirits obtained from sugar cane. The tax rates applicable to the four categories vary depending on the net resale price of a 750 ml bottle of the spirit in question. As a result, the different spirits are subject to the following tax: Spirits obtained from fruit: €3 Spirits obtained from cereals €4 Spirits obtained from wine: €7 Spirits obtained from sugar cane: €14 Country Beta, which is an important exporter of spirits obtained from sugar cane, is dissatisfied with the high taxes imposed on its products in Alpha and seeks your advice as to whether the tax regime of Alpha is compatible with the WTO rules. Both Alpha and Beta are WTO members. Beta also informs you that Alpha is producing spirits from fruit and cereals, whereas its production of spirits obtained from wine or sugar cane is insignificant. Please write a max 2-page brief advising your client on the compatibility of the tax regime of Alpha with the WTO rules.

In Session 3 you learned how to use the PsycARTICLES  database. This will be your research resource for this assignment, in which you will review recent research literature in the domain of personality. This assignment was previously outlined in Session 11, so you have had some time to work on it prior to this week.

An annotated bibliography is a paper in which you list and summarizes several sources on a specific topic. For this assignment you will select a personality trait from the list below. You will then search for five articles on this topic within the PsycARTICLES database; all articles must have been published within the last five years. Within your paper you will list each of your five articles using a properly-formatted APA citation, and for each article you will provide a 150-250 word summary that outlines the following:

The specific topic of the article
The rationale for the research, i.e. why did the researchers do this (to test a theory, to fill in a gap, to replicate previous research, to advance a better therapeutic practice, etc.)
A general description of the people who were studied in the research (e.g. age, sex, etc)
A general description of the methods used
A summary of the general conclusions drawn by the researchers
NOTE: You are not expected to summarize the statistical results; that goes beyond the level of an Intro Psych class

You may select from the following list of personality traits:

Aggression
Agreeableness
Compassion
Confidence
Empathy
Extraversion
Generosity
Impulsivity
Introversion
Loyalty
Negativity
Neuroticism
Obsessiveness
Openness
Positivity
Resilience
Sensation seeking
Spirituality

Be aware that some of these will have more research than others. Ideally, you should choose a topic that generates many search results from PsycARTICLES, so that you can scan through for articles that are interesting and which you can understand sufficiently well to be able to summarize within your paper.

Your paper should begin with a title page (within the same document as the paper) listing your name, class section, professor’s name and the date, and the personality trait you chose to study. Then, on the next page you should begin the bibliography: list the APA citation for your first source, followed by your summary; then, proceed to the second, third, fourth, and fifth citations. A very generic sample paper is attached below, along with links to sources of further reading about annotated bibliographies.

The emphasis in this paper is demonstrating understanding of the material, as summarized in your own words. You may use direct quotes if they are very short and clearly cited within quotation marks, but you should not use longer block quotes.

The paper should be formatted as follows:

The paper should be double-spaced, no more than 12 point font, preferably Times New Roman or Calibri. Do NOT use Courier font. Margins should be no more than 1.25 inches all around.
The paper must be submitted in Microsoft Word .DOC format or Microsoft Word .DOCX format. The “Save As…” menu in most word processors will allow you to select your format.
If your word processor does not allow you to save in one of these formats, the college does allow students to download a copy of Microsoft Office for free. Instructions on doing this can be found in the Start Here area of the course, under Step 3: Help with Blackboard and Technology
If you do not submit in one of these formats, I may not be able to open the file (warning: I cannot open files in Microsoft Works or Apple Pages format). If I cannot open the file, you will receive a zero for the assignment.

The paper is due by the Session 15 due date, listed in the course calendar. Once your paper is completed, you must submit it using the link above. Once you have uploaded the assignment, you should click back on this link to confirm that the file was correctly uploaded; you should check that the uploaded file is the one you intended to upload, and that the file was not corrupted during upload. If there are any problems with the uploaded document you should send a copy of the correct document to your instructor via e-mail or messages (whichever one your instructor uses).

The grading structure for this paper is outlined below; more detail is available in the full grading rubric, which you can find by clicking on the link above (where it says “Annotated Bibliography”).

Summary of first source: up to 10 points
Summary of second source: up to 10 points
Summary of third source: up to 10 points
Summary of fourth source: up to 10 points
Summary of fifth source: up to 10 points
Formatting of document and APA citations: up to 10 points
Quality of writing: up to 15 points
TOTAL: 75 points

Later this semester you will complete an annotated bibliography assignment. All of your research for that assignment will come from psychology journal articles in the EBSCO PsycARTICLES database, which is a part of Ivy Tech’s Virtual Library. This assignment will familiarize you with this database.

Step 1: Open your book to a random page. Within that page, pick out a bold-faced term, or some other word that is clearly a psychological concept. Don’t worry about what you pick, you will not be required to write a paper about this concept.

Step 2: Please go to the link below, and log in using your Campus Connect login. If connecting from campus, you might not have to log in. If your browser gives you problems, you might try right-clicking the link and choosing “Open in New Tab” or “Open in New Window”. Depending on your browser, you may be taken directly to PsycARTICLES, or you may be presented with a list of databases; if the latter, please check the box for PsycARTICLES, uncheck any other databases, and then click on the PsycARTICLES link.

Once you are in the database, type the word or phrase that you found in Step 1 into the first search box. Then, scroll down to where it says “Published date from”, enter January 2008 (leave the “to:” fields blank). Then click the search button.

Link to PsycARTICLES database

If the above link does not work, please instead try one of the following procedures as a workaround:

Click the Library tab above the course window, or go to the Library Resources section under the Resources link on the left
On the right, click IvyJo
Scroll down and click EBSCO PsycARTICLES
(At some point in this process they may need to log in with Campus Connect login and password)

OR
Log in to Campus Connect: cc.ivytech.edu
Click the Library tab
Find the box labeled “Reference and Special Collections” and select “A-Z list”
Scroll down and click on PsycARTICLES

hey this is my classmate’s work its an example

(After reading the article “Deduction and Induction: Reasoning through Mental Models” which is written by the authors Bruno G. Bara, and Monica Bucciarelli, I learn more about how to conclude plausibly from reading the premises carefully.

In this article, there are two map photos of the process of reading in how we read and conclude from any reading or article to show us specifically how to do the process. I think not all of the time we need to follow this processes. for example if we read something we know it or familiar to us we do not need to follow any process because our mind know it already and will conclude simply with no specific process. but maybe if there is something new for us we will need to follow those processes to get better understanding and good conclusion.

Also, in this article they talk about the phases of deduction, which are five phases: construction, integration, conclusion, falsification, and response phases. and they explain each phase individually. I think explaining them make it easier for me to understand each of them and how to go through them.

Last, it was difficult for me to understand the points of this article but when the authors provide examples of Ann and Mark and other kind of examples make it much easier to understand and have an idea what is the points all about.)

so discuss what you think about this article  “Deduction and Induction: Reasoning Through Mental Models”

(200- 300 word dont make it so hard because im international student )
“i hope that you got what i want you to write about ”

Discussion—Entrepreneurs and the World of Business

Try to complete it quickly.
Course: The Functional Contribution to Organizational Success
Course Textbook: See attachment

Feedback from a prior assignment, respond to the feedback, See attachment for prior assignment submitted).

In your response you stated “Change is one of the reasons that could describe an eventual person to become an entrepreneur.  If a situation arises that requires sudden change, a person is forced to come up with a new way of handling the situations. Interestingly, this leads to a person becoming an entrepreneur.”

Although change can drive one towards entrepreneurship, is this always the best route if change is immediate / instantaneous?

explore the nutritional value of menu items at a local fast-food restaurant. Using the available menu items, plan two meals: the healthiest meal possible and the unhealthiest healthy meal possible. Both meals should include an entrée, a side, a beverage, and dessert. In a Word document, please answer and discuss the following questions.

Deliverables
1.Describe the healthy meal that you have created from the fast-food restaurant using the nutritional value of menu items.
a.Name the restaurant, and then write a nutritional analysis of the meal you have created. (Explain all of the nutrients found in the meal, like carbs, protein, fat, and some essential vitamins and minerals.)
b.Discuss your reaction to the analysis–make sure to explain why you feel the way you do about this meal. For example, if your meal is composed primarily of fat, discuss that point; if your meal supplies a lot of sugar per serving, discuss that as well. Please also remember to link excess or limited amounts of nutrients with diseases or the potential for disease (too much fat may put you at risk for heart disease, not enough calcium may not support bone health, etc.). Please make sure this section is as detailed as possible.
c.How will this information affect your future food choices? Make sure to explain why you will or will not eat this meal again, and support your answer with the information found in the above sections.

Creative writing: English and Literature

Part I: Select a fact about one of the authors this week that you found most interesting and tell us why.

Ernest Hemingway

Part II: If you had to choose only one aspect of who you are that is predominant in your identity, what would it be? Why? With that in mind, what character could you best relate to this week?
“(Big Two-Hearted River: Part I and Part II” by Ernest Hemingway in American Literature Since the Civil War)

Part III: Select one of the works this week. Discuss how one of the characters defines him or herself. Take a look at another character in the same work. Does that character perceive that person the same way? How do their definitions differ? For instance, you may discuss how Mother defines herself and how her husband sees her. Be sure to support your response with cited evidence from the text.
(Define Ernest Hemingway)
The American Tradition in Literature by George perkins

Submission Instructions: As with every “main” discussion post, please make comments substantive (in at least 300 words). Use quotations to support your points, but make sure to balance them with your own original ideas. Finally, please engage two of your classmates in their forum posts to help further our conversation. Please be sure to check back to read and respond to anyone who responded to your forum as a common courtesy. Respond to classmates’ posts in at least 100-150 words each.

SUBDOMAIN 427.1 – ENTERPRISE CONTINUITY PLANNING

Competency 427.1.5: Responding to Attacks and Special Circumstances – The graduate identifies, evaluates, and applies network response procedures for attacks with special circumstances.
Competency 427.1.7: Continued Assessments During a Disaster – The graduate assesses needs, threats, and solutions prior to and during a network disaster.

Scenario:

An employee hacked into the human resource records system at the employee’s place of business and changed the employee’s base salary rate to obtain a pay raise. The employee did this by spoofing an IP address in order to eavesdrop on the network. Once the employee identified where the data was stored and how to modify it, the employee made the changes and received two paychecks with the new amount.

Fortunately, an auditor happened to discover the error. The auditor sent an e-mail to several individuals within the organization to let them know there was a potential problem with the employee’s paycheck. However, the employee was able to intercept the message and craft fake responses from the individuals the original e-mail was sent to. The employee and the auditor exchanged e-mails back and forth until the employee was soon given access permissions for some other financial records. With this new information, the employee was able to lower the salaries of the president of the company and several other employees and then to include the salary difference in the employee’s own paycheck.

The IT staff determined that the spoofing that occurred that allowed the employee to gain access to the human resources system was caused by a lack of authentication and encryption controls. As such, a local root certificate authority was installed to implement a public key infrastructure (PKI) in which all communication to the human resource system required a certificate. This would encrypt network traffic to and from the human resources system and prevent eavesdropping. It would also properly authenticate the host to prevent spoofing.

Task:

A.  Perform a postevent evaluation of how the organization’s IT staff responded to the attack described in the scenario by doing the following:
1.  Describe the nature of the incident.
2.  Identify who needs to be notified based on the type and severity of the incident.
3.  Outline how the incident could be contained.
4.  Discuss how the factor that caused the incident could be removed.
5.  Describe how the system could be restored to normal business practice.
a.  Explain how the system could be verified as operational.

B.  Perform a follow-up of the postevent evaluation by doing the following:
1.  Identify areas that were not addressed by the IT staff’s response to the incident.
2.  Outline the other attacks mentioned in the scenario that were not noticed by the organization.
a.  Describe the nature of the attacks not noticed by the organization.
b.  Describe how these additional attacks can be prevented in the future.
3.  Recommend a recovery procedure to restore the computer systems back to their original state prior to such attacks.

C.  When you use sources, include all in-text citations and references in APA format.

Note: When bulleted points are present in the task prompt, the level of detail or support called for in the rubric refers to those bulleted points.

Note: For definitions of terms commonly used in the rubric, see the Rubric Terms web link included in the Evaluation Procedures section.

Note: When using sources to support ideas and elements in a paper or project, the submission MUST include APA formatted in-text citations with a corresponding reference list for any direct quotes or paraphrasing. It is not necessary to list sources that were consulted if they have not been quoted or paraphrased in the text of the paper or project.

Note: No more than a combined total of 30% of a submission can be directly quoted or closely paraphrased from sources, even if cited correctly. For tips on using APA style, please refer to the APA Handout web link included in the General Instructions section.

Professor’s Feedback from a previous assignment submitted ( See Attachment)

Good job with your post. In your response, you did a good job of discussing the vital parts of a business. In your response you stated “Research statistics reveals a worrying trend of over 90% failure of startups within their initial five years of operation. It is therefore required that the necessary steps and procedures in their initiation are observed for their success to be a reality.”

Question:
Of the 90% failure rate, what are the primary causes of these business failures?

Instructions:

Read the article “Measuring Community Participation of Adults with Psychiatric Disabilities: Reliability of Two Modes of Data Collection” (available through the Shapiro Library). Then, in a short paper, briefly describe each of the parts of the research listed below (see APA manual, pages 25, 27–35, and 37). Be explicit. Include specific examples from your reading to incorporate reliability, validity, and measurement in your answers.

Introduction
Describe the problem being investigated.
State the research hypothesis.
Define any new research terms.
What does this study have to do with reliability?

Method
Briefly describe how the research was conducted, specifically addressing what was intended to be measured.
Who were the participants, and how were they selected?
Identify the independent and dependent variables.

Results
What were the research findings?
What statistics were included in this section?
Did the authors report any reliability data for their measures? What were they? Did you note construct validity in this experiment? If so, what type?

Discussion
Did the research findings support the hypothesis?
Was the research reliable? Why or why not?
Did the study list any suggestions for improvement and replication?

Conclusion
Paraphrase the research conclusion in 150–250 words.

Analysis
What did this article teach you about test-retest reliability? How was what you read related to what you studied this week?

FeedBack From Last Paper;
Here are a few writing style notes we should go over.  I tried to catch most of them in your papers, but cannot guarantee that I have caught them all.

Please pay attention to your grammar.  Be mindful of your tense (do not switch between present and past).  Many of you had awkward sentences.  One thing you can do to help with this is to read your papers out loud.  If you find that you are stumbling over what you are saying, then you should definitely consider revising.  Be precise in your language use.  Do not use fancy words unless you need to.  Be judicious in your words choices.  Many times I cross-check words with the dictionary and thesaurus to settle upon the word that has the most accurate meaning for what I am trying to convey.  Avoid anthropomorphizing things.  If you do not know what this means, ask me.

A reminder about paragraph structure.  Paragraphs start with a thesis statement (the point on the paragraph), are followed by some supporting statements, and then are generally wrapped up in some way.  Paragraphs should not be a page (or more!) in length — those are typically too long and need to be broken up.  The same idea goes for the entire flow of the paper.  You are trying to convey a story or logical argument to me.  That means that your ideas should follow one after the other.  For each paragraph, write out what the main point of it is and then put all of your main points together.  This should form a logical structure.  Try to look at it and think about what might be missing.  If you were an outsider reading this paper, what is it that you would want to know.

Pet peeve of mine … “While” and how to use it.  Please see this http://blog.apastyle.org/apastyle/2011/05/properly-using-while.html (copy-and-paste this into a brower).  Many times you are using “while” when you should be using “although” or “whereas”.
Quotes…each of you are intelligent individuals.  Please do not quote anything unless you have to.  You can paraphrase things, putthing the ideas into your own words.  Your papers should NOT consist largely of quotes.  They should be your own ideas and supported by the literature.  Even when giving me a definition of a concept…you DO NOT need to give me a quote from a book.  Describe it in your own words and provide me with the citation. Quotes are incredibly distracting.  Think of how many scientific articles you have read just for this class (including the book) and how many quotes are used.  I suspect, not very many. <– This is not something that I consistently saw, but is a rule of thumb you should try to abide by in your every day writing (including discussion board posts).

Finally, be mindful of proper APA format.  Some of you received a lot of feedback regarding format.  Look at what I did and if you do not know how I did what I did, please ask me.  I understand that you do not always have access to your APA book (I know that I don’t!).  I am providing a great resource that you should definitely consider using when referencing proper format: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/section/2/10/ (copy-and-paste into a browser).
