Case study critical thinking

Read “You Manage It! 2” in Managing Human Resources (2016, p. 177). After reading the case, complete the following items:

Write a summary of the case,
Answer the critical thinking questions, and
Elaborate on two key learnings from the case related to recruitment, selection, and legal considerations. Be sure to clearly state the two key learnings and defend them in well-organized, scholarly responses.
A key learning is defined as significant knowledge gained from reading the case. You may choose to explain your key learnings by offering a real-world application, personal insight, your thoughts and opinions about what was stated, how it is handled at your company, etc.

Please arrange your summary, questions, and key learnings in a well-organized, scholarly response of 2-3 pages. Include a title page and references page which are not included in the page count. Support your observations and opinions with citations from 2-3 credible sources.

Dear Writer, please write 2 full pages, not 1.75. Also, references page is seperate from that. You do not need to create a title page. Any questions, email or text me instead of calling. Thanks much! 🙂

1.5 line spacing, reg margins font

professor’s words
The main thing with Part 1 is to answer the questions. The first three are, as I mentioned in the overview (in class and on the instruction sheet), DESCRIPTIVE. So describe! Be precise. What changed, when did it change. If numbers are involve, use them! Not sure what else to say here, but be precise. Imagine you are in court, if that helps. Number 4 is more of a weaving together of numbers 1-3. In other words, you are considering the various lines of information and how they inter-relate. For example, as corm (maize) use becomes more prevalent, is there a change in residential (site) habitation)? Etc. This is where you consider the entire package of things and how they may be (are) dependent upon each other in bringing about cultural CHANGE. Also, note that this whole exercise is about explaining change, ultimately, and so you should be aware of purpose: what is the main question or questions at stake here? Keep in mind that these ancient peoples started off early as hunters and gatherers (band level) and through time became sedentary agriculturalists (tribal and then chiefdom). So the question is, then (at least one BIG question), how and when did that come about? One final point here. RESIST The urge to be ethnocentric or culturally ignorant when describing and explaining. As time went on, the people involved did not not “get better” or “become smarter” or attain some “sophistication” when compared with their ancestors. We are explaining change here, nor some western based moral imperative to become sedentary mass consumers of resources. There is a steady decline in heath and a whole lot more labor involved in becoming sedentary after leaving hunting and gathering. So resist the urge to expose ignorance on your part by saying their lives “improved.” That’s blatantly false.

Okay, part 2. This is SIMPLY a formal write up and expanded version of part 1. Include graphs to highlight the numerical data (&s, etc) where applicable, and visuals you wish to add (say, a map?), etc. Put these right into the report and with a caption for each. Part 4 should be your emphasis, with at least a page or more of the total 5 pages devoted to it. I would shoot for 1.5-2 on that one. You should have an intro: what is the topic? What are the questions? What kinds of data are involved? How will they be assessed. The latter two of these cam be rolled into some basic statement (a few sentences) like a research design. At the end, you should also have a conclusion where you restate the original purpose and question/s and provide some answer with respect to your findings. Presto! Done.

Select and read any one chapter from the book “Freedom’s Daughters The Unsung Heroines Of The Civil Rights Movement From 1830 To 1970 by Lynne Olson” that has not been covered in class. (chapters covered in class 1,2,5,6,7).
Also watch one of the movies about the Civil Rights era listed below.

Films:  Boycott

Long Walk Home

Crisis at Central High

Ruby Bridges

4 little Girls

Selma, Lord, Selma

The Remarkable Story of the Battle to Integrate Little Rock’s Central High School

Little Rock Central: 50 years Later

The films can be found online (You-tube, on services such as Netflix & Hulu, or at your local public library. All of the films run between one to two hours.

Summarize and analyze what these historical dramas tell us about the Civil Rights Movement (CRM), Black women, and race/gender relations in the CRM and the United States. Explain what impact, if any, the women studied in class had on the Movement. How do these women and the study of these women relate to the broader issues of Black Women’s Studies. Make connections to the other readings done in class, include specific references to the additional reading you selected.

Footnote as appropriate. The bibliography (in Chicago format) should include the film you selected, the textbook, and any readings referenced. You don’t have to use outside sources but if you do, include them as well. Do not use online encyclopedias. You can find examples of the Chicago format on line also. Here are two helpful sites:  http://www.citationmachine.net/chicago and Chicago Manual of Style 17th Edition // Purdue Writing Lab.

Your paper should be 3 pages not including the bibliography page. (3 full pages not, 2 and a little bit on the 3rd page).

FORUM 1: ART
The purpose of this forum is to discuss painting using the 4 components of a work of art covered in Chapter 2 of the textbook.
Review:
1) artistic form: (visual characteristics)
2) subject matter (the activity or objects represented)
3) content (meaning, message or interpretation)
4) participation (viewer’s involvement with the work of art)
Instructions:
•    Select one painting that interests you from one of the following links. You must select an original topic.  Review the paintings already posted by other students on this forum by using the search box before you select yours.
•    Include an image of the painting with your post. Instructions below on posting an image.
For ideas consult the following websites or find your own example:

Top 50 Most Famous Paintings of All Time

45 Most Famous Paintings of All Times

https://www.timeout.com/newyork/art/top-famous-paintings-in-art-history-ranked

Format:
•    Put the artist’s name and title of the painting in bold on the first line of your post. This helps students find your topic.
•    Paragraph #1: (10-15 sentences) Summary: Provide some brief background information about the artist. Do some research. Introduce them. What is their name, when and where did they live. Tell us something interesting about their life. What type of paintings do they create? Are they associated with any particular art movement or style? Use your own words, no quotes or lists.
•    Paragraph #2: (10-15 sentences) Critique  the painting you selected using the 4 components of a work of art described in the textbook: subject matter, artistic form, content, and your participation with the art work.  For example, begin by identifying the subject matter of the painting. Describe the activity, objects or people in the painting or discuss how the painting has no identifiable subject. Then describe the artistic form (visual appearance, colors, lines, shapes).  Next, discuss the content (meaning) of the work of art. In your opinion, what meaning, values or ideas or mood do you think the artist is trying to covey?  Use first person statements. “I think this painting is about…” Finally, discuss your participation and critique of the work of art.  What do you like most or think is interesting?  Are there any aspects of the work you don’t like or find confusing.  Do you think the artist’s work is successful in conveying content or meaning. If not, explain why. Why did you choose this work? What was your initial reaction?  After you studied the artist and focused on the work of art, did your opinion change in any way?  Overall, what is your evaluation of the artist’s work?  What do you like or not like?  Is this an artist you’d like to learn more about or see their work in person?  Include first person comments, “I like…I think…” We want to hear what you think.

•    USE THE TWO PARAGRAPH FORMAT
•    TOTAL WORD COUNT OF ENTIRE POST: 350-450
•    USE YOUR OWN WORDS, NO QUOTES OR LISTS

• Task: The response essay asks you to examine two articles and discuss your reactions to them. The essay will not incorporate other source material other than the articles to which you are responding.
• Sources: Two sources, which are the articles to which you are responding

—Articles to select from to respond to
In this essay, you will write a personal response to the following pair of articles.

• Teller, J. R. (2016). Are we teaching composition all wrong? The Chronicle of Higher Education, Retrieved from http://www.chronicle.com/
• Stewart, E.M. (2016). No, we’re not teaching composition ‘all wrong.’ The Chronicle of Higher Education. Retrieved from http://www.chronicle.com/

Please read both articles in preparing to construct your first draft of your response essay. You might compare what Teller says to what Stewart says, consider your own experiences in writing classes when reading their arguments, and note areas of agreement, disagreement, or partial agreement/disagreement you have with either author.
Please incorporate both authors into your response essay. Do not simply respond to one of the authors. Respond to both Teller and Stewart as a pair of essays.

For this essay, feel free to use “I” and “me” (first person point of view) in responding to the article. While you may have been discouraged from using first-person point of view in previous classes, please note that this essay is one that allows the use of first-person point of view because you are responding to an article.
However, you should not write “to the reader” by using the pronoun “you” (second person point of view) in referring to the reader. For example, instead of “When you read this article, you have the impression that the author is…” you would write, “When I read this article, I had the impression that the author was…”
