Write a two- to three-page analysis using the Case Study on pages 325-327 of your textbook, “Expatriate Management at AstraZeneca.”

Your analysis should address the following questions:

1. Critically analyze AstraZeneca’s expatriate management practices.

2. According to the 2007 Expatriate Work/Life Balance Survey, 65% of expats report feeling the strain of managing

the demands of work and home, leading to more anxieties at home and at the workplace. What steps can an

organization take to mitigate this?

3. What decisions related to expatriates could organizations take to maximize the benefits to the company despite

ongoing economic recessions? Do you think a company that paid more careful attention to selection could further

boost their chances of success?

Your case study analysis should follow APA guidelines for formatting of all resources, both in-text and as references. Your

analysis should include a title page and should include a separate reference page. Remember to use the CSU Library to

complete your research for this assignment.

 This assignment contributes 25% towards your overall result of DCNC with a bonus of up to 5 additional marks.

 You are expected to work in a group (recommend 3 members) of your choice: o Individual submission would be acceptable; o High standard will be expected to groups have more than 3 members.

 Failure to comply with the instructions may lead to mark deduction.
2 Submission

 Date of submission: 11:59PM, 20th May 2016.  The assignment is to be submitted via Weblearn. Each group only needs to submit once (only one student from your group should submit).

 Please compress your assignment into a single file for submission.

 Remember to include in your submissions the names, student IDs and contribution percentages of every group member, so we can allocate marks appropriately.
Each group chooses one of the following tasks (either Task 1 or Task 2):
3  Tasks
Task 1 Investigation of Time Division Multiplexing (TDM).

Assume a Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) multiplexer combines four sources, A, B, C and D, using a synchronization time slot of 2 bytes with one extra framing bit for synchronization;

1) Draw a picture to describe the synchronized TDM.

2) Explain how time is shared and how the synchronized transmission is implemented 3) Each analog signal is digitized using 8-bit Pulse Code Modulation (PCM). The PAM is shown in Figure 1 below. Give the PCM output of Frame 2, Frame 3 and Frame 4.

4) As shown in Figure 1 below, source C stops transmitting at the third frame, and source D stops transmitting at the fourth frame. Discuss the resource utilization of the multiplexed channels in these cases.

5) Discuss the advantages and the disadvantages of synchronized transmission.

6) Suppose that 10,000 people are talking one-to-one (i.e., 5,000 calls) on the phone at a specific time. What is the total bit rate generated by all these people if each voice call is encoded using PCM, which requires 64kbps for each voice channel?

7) A digital transmission system has a bit rate of 50 Mbps. How many PCM voice calls can be carried by the system?

8) Bonus 5 marks: Investigate how to transmit the student numbers of your team members  more efficient than the synchronized TDM transmission.
Figure 1. Pulse Amplitude Modulation (PAM) of channels A, B, C and D.

Task 2 2 Investigation of Code Division Multiplexing Access (CDMA) and wireless communications.

The following table shows the development of mobile communications:

An abridged version of The National Survey of Australian Secondary Students and Sexual Health 2013 (NSASSH) is available in the Assessment 2 folder on the PHE2AHR LMS site. Students will need to access this report to complete the assessment and will need to use different chapters to complete their report satisfactorily.

Mitchell, A., Patrick, K., Heywood, W., Blackman, P., & Pitts, M. (2014). National survey of Australian secondary students and sexual health 2013. Melbourne: Australian Research Centre in Sex Health and Society & La Trobe University.

As a LTU student you are given a placement at a secondary school. Recent reports in the media have raised awareness of a study conducted by researchers at LTU on the sexual health of secondary students. Two issues raised in the report have received particular attention about behaviours among secondary school students: alcohol and drug use; and the use of technology and cyberbullying.

The media attention has led to an increase in the number of parents at the school raising concerns about these issues. In response, the school principal has approached the LTU placement students, who are studying Public Health, Rehab Counselling or Health Information Management, and asked them to prepare a response to the report that includes additional analysis of relevant data. This is needed so that teachers in the school are better informed about the research and can answer parents’ questions. The principal makes it clear that the expectation is for “evidence-based reports” as some of the parents “know a lot about this sort of thing and we need to be clear that we know what we are talking about”.

The school has also collected data from two sources:

  • A random sample of students in Years 10, 11 and 12
  • A focus group with Year 12 students.

Public Health, Rehab Counselling placement students were asked to prepare a report based on the NSASSH report and the focus group data to address the following three research questions.

  • How do drinking patterns, in terms of the number of drinks on a day that a student has an alcoholic drink vary for all students in Years 10, 11 and 12 and for male and female students in Years 10, 11 and 12?
  • Are any observed differences in drinking patterns for these groups statistically significant?
  • Considering the qualitative data available, what are possible explanations for drinking behaviours in Year 12 students?

You’re meeting with Lester in his office to discuss the details of your presentation to the board next week.

“Given all of the research that you have completed over the past several weeks,” he says, “you should have most of the information you need to make a presentation to the board. The board doesn’t want you to do any more research on all of the topics; rather, we want you to summarize the research that you have already done. ”

“Yes,” you say. “I think I have what I need.”

“Of course we want your final conclusion and recommendation on what the company should do regarding the location issue, as well,” he says.

“What type of presentation do you have in mind, Lester?”

“A PowerPoint presentation would be appropriate for this group,” he says. “I want you to include slide notes, too, in case we have to go back and look at something at a later date. Your PowerPoint presentation should contain between 10–15 slides, not including the title slide and reference slide(s). For each slide, you should have between 150–200 words in the Notes sections. Let’s take a few minutes now to go over how the slides should be organized. I’ve done similar presentations, so I can save you some time with a few pointers.”

When you get back to your office, you type out your notes about each element you discussed and the overall organization of the presentation. For this presentation, you are addressing the following elements:

  • Legal, social, and financial factor considerations
  • Economic factors: gross domestic product (GDP), inflation, interest rates, unemployment
  • Elasticity of demand
  • Economies of scale and efficiency
  • Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT)
  • Market structure
  • Risk
  • Costs (marginal, fixed, variable, etc.)
  • International expansion (Five factors that should be considered before making the decision to expand internationally)

A Case Study of Corporate Social Responsibility Practices in XYZ Group of Company

The Arrangement of the Contents of the Project Paper

All project papers should be divided into appropriate sections. The onus is on the students to provide a well-organized and well-written work. The following ordered list of project paper contents is supposed to serve as a guide.

List of Sections

  1. Introduction
  2. Literature Review
  • Research Design and Methodology
  1. Analysis and Interpretation of Data
  2. Conclusions, Observations and Recommendations

  1. Introduction

This is one of the most important components of the report. It should begin with a clear statement of what the project is about so that the nature and scope of the project can be understood by a lay reader. It should summarise everything you set out to achieve, provide a clear summary of the project’s background, relevance and main contributions. The introduction should set the context for the project and should provide the reader with a summary of the key things to look out for in the remainder of the report.

  1. Literature Review

It means some theoretical justifications for the project. This should include a literature references to support the process, validity, and value of your project. For example, if you are doing a project to introduce social entrepreneurship in the public, then this section would provide a literature review describing what is social entrepreneurship, what are different theories of it which have been described by other researchers in different articles or books and why social entrepreneurship is valuable to economic development and/or business creation in a country. Whatever you include it should have proper reference from the literature.

After the literature review you may also add company background; in which you are conducting the research. It can be any manufacturing or service company operating in UAE. It may include its business details like product and service information.

  1. Methodology

It means the procedures. This section should include a description of the major activities and activity timetable for data collection to complete the project. For example, either you will choose interview method for data collection or you will go for questionnaire survey. Following the social entrepreneurship example, this section would indicate the major activities such as number of contact employees in the selected company, sources of secondary data, approaches for the analysis of the collected data, etc.

  1. Findings/Evaluation

This section should include the specific measurable outcomes. In other words, specify that what you have found out in this research. Provide all your results here in this section in more visible and tangible way. You may make graphs or tables to demonstrate your result findings. Along with your results you can also add your reflection (ideas) on these results with analytical approach.

  1. Conclusion

In this section you have to wind up your research by briefly discussing the main objectives of the research and how you have met these objectives. But same time you have to write practical implications for the mangers. It means that you should suggest some new ideas to the manger to improve their relevant area in which you were conducting your research.

  1. References

All the citations that you have made throughout your project must be referenced. So, please use APA style of referencing for it (download a separate attached instructions file for inserting reference in MS Word file from Blackboard).
